Day 1 :: Arrival Yangon by morning flight :: -/-/-

yangon-10Our Gracious Myanmar Travel guide will meet on arrival at Yangon International Airport. If arriving by morning or mid-day flight, transfer to hotel. Proceed for a sightseeing tour that includes the old colonial-style city centre with the gilded SULE PAGODA, dating back over 2,000 years; BOGYOKE (SCOTT'S) MARKET with hundreds of stores; CHAUK HTAT GYI, a huge reclining Buddha image followed by a photo stop made at KARAWEIK HALL, a royal floating barge. An extended visit to SHWEDAGON PAGODA, one of the world's most spectacular religious monuments, will conclude today's sightseeing tour of this picturesque Garden City. The golden dome of the Shwedagon Pagoda rises 98 meters above its base and is covered with 60 tons of pure gold. Stay overnight at Hotel in Yangon.

Day 2 :: Yangon - Bago - Kyaikhtiyo :: B/-/-

bago-04After an early breakfast drive via Bago to KIN PUN "base camp" (194 km - 5 hours). On the way, visit KYAIK PUN PAGODA, famous for its four giant Buddhas. In Bago stop at KYAKHAT WINE monastery where you will see over 1000 Buddhist monks having their merit lunch with total silence by approx. 10:30 am.! Visit also SHWETHALYAUNG, the most beautiful Reclining Buddha; Further visit a Mon weaving family, where you can observe the traditional way of weaving fabrics.

Continue to KYAIKHTIYO (approx. 3 hours), the Golden Rock, a huge boulder completely covered by gold leaves and delicately balanced on the edge of a cliff. From Kin Pun Base Camp, a steep and rough 11 km dirt road leads to the upper staging point, a journey made in open trucks. From there, travellers must at present walk the final stage, approximately 4 km up steep paths, which ascend some 500 m to the GOLDEN ROCK. On top of the hill, enjoy the beautiful panoramic view over the Sittaung River valley. Overnight at Hotel near Golden Rock.

* Note:
Don't forget your torch light, as it is quite dark when you return back to your Hotel after sun-set!!!
You also have the chance to get carried by SEDAN Chair which will cost approx. 10 US$ per person (on your own account)

Day 3 :: Kyaikhtiyo - Bago - Taungoo :: B/-/-

After early breakfast climb down to base camp and drive back to Bago (3 hours). Have a short break before you continue to Taungoo (263 km, 4 hours). After this long driving day, relax at the Hotel. Stay overnight at Hotel in Taungoo.


Day 4 :: Taungoo - Elephant Camp :: B/L/D

elephant-03After breakfast, drive by 4-wheel-drive car to SEIN YE FOREST CAMP. Visit nearby real working elephant camps. Learn how the elephants do their work in the wood logging process. Stay overnight at Sein Ye Forest Camp.

Day 5 :: Camp - Karen Village - Pyay :: B/L/-

After breakfast, start the most adventurous part of your trip. Drive OFF-ROAD through the jungle to SHWE DAUNG NGWE DAUNG VILLAGE. Study the daily life of the Karen tribe people, chat with the natives. Afterwards proceed by car to Pyay, formerly known as Prome. Stay overnight at Hotel in Pyay.

Day 6 :: Pyay - Salay - Bagan :: B/-/-

pyay-03After breakfast, drive by 4-wheel-drive car to Bagan (ca. 450 km, 8 hours). On the way, between Chauk and Salay, visit SHIN BIN SAR CHO, a very interesting Pagoda complex, famous for its exquisite paintings. Salay has more working monasteries than Bagan nowadays. Visit the probably largest lacquer Buddha image near THADANAYAUNGGYI KYAUNG and HKINKYIZA KYAUNG, a Buddhist library and YOUQSON KYAUNG, the oldest still existing wooden monastery hall in Bagan area. Afterwards drive to Bagan. Stay overnight at Hotel in Bagan.

*Bagan: Approx. founded in 849 AD. The peak of Bagan era started under King Anawrahta in 1044 and ended in 1287 when Mongols overrun Bagan.

Thousands of Pagodas were built within an area of 42 km². According to the Archaeological Department 2217 standing pagodas are listed.


Day 7 :: Bagan :: B/-/-

bagan-18After breakfast, proceed for sightseeing at the busy local market and continue to a diverse selection of the most important Pagodas and temples such as SHWEZIGON PAGODA, which was built by King Anawratha in the early century. Continued by KU BYAUK GYI, a temple with exquisite murals of Jataka scenes, KHAY MIN GA TEMPLE, which is noted for its spectacular panoramic view of the area's many monuments, and ANANDA TEMPLE with four huge standing Buddha images and numerous seated figures in niches inside the gallery. Enjoy the sunset from MINGALA ZEDI. Stay overnight at Hotel in Bagan.

Day 8 :: Bagan :: B/-/-

bagan-19Another interesting sightseeing day in Bagan. After breakfast at the hotel, continue sightseeing to an old NOODLE COTTAGE and observe the daily life the people in TAUNGBI VILLAGE. After lunch you will go by horsecart to nearby MYINKABA VILLAGE to see the incredible fine art of doing the famous lacquerware. Afterwards proceed to MYINGABA GU BYAUKGYI TEMPLE, noted for its ancient mural paintings under the protection of UNESCO. In the late afternoon take a romantic boat trip (1 ½ hrs) on the famous Ayeyarwady River. Stay overnight at Hotel in Bagan.


Day 9 :: Bagan - Mandalay by morning flight :: B/-/-

bagan-20After breakfast at hotel, transfer to airport for domestic flight to MANDALAY. Upon arrival at Mandalay Airport, proceed directly to AMARAPURA. Visit MAHAGANDAYON, a famous Buddhist monastery, where more than a thousand monks live and study; continue to 200-year- old U BEIN teak bridge, built in 1782 at the time when Amarapura was the royal capital. Visit of BAGAYA MONASTERY with a superb collection of Buddha statues.

Sightseeing after lunch includes an excursion to the former capital of INWA (AVA). Explore Ava by horsecart. Visit of NANMYINT WATCHTOWER, the remains of the palace building nicknamed "leaning tower of Ava", MAHA AUNGMYE BONZAN MONASTERY, built of brick and stucco and BAGAYAR MONASTERY, famous for its impressive ornate woodcarvings and teak posts. Continue to SAGAING HILLS, a retreat for Buddhist devotees, for sunset. Overnight at Hotel in Mandalay.

Day 10 :: Mandalay - Mingun by boat :: B/-/-

mandalay-10After breakfast, Boat excursion (1 hour) up the AYEYARWADDY RIVER to MINGUN, site of the world's largest intact BRONZE BELL, 3.7 meters high and weighing 87 tons. Also visit the huge but unfinished MINGUN PAYA built to be the world's biggest pagoda and the beautiful HSINBYUME PAYA.

Afternoon, sightseeing tour continue MAHAMUNI PAGODA with its spectacular Buddha image covered with thick layers of gold leaves, SHWE INBIN, one of the most outstanding monasteries in the country, SHWE NAN DAW KYAUNG or GOLDEN PALACE MONASTERY, a superb example of a traditional wooden building and KUTHODAW PAGODA, known as the world's largest book, consisting of 729 marble slabs engraved with Buddhist scriptures. A visit is also made to a jetty to observe daily life at the river and to a craftsmen's workshop to see Kalaga tapestries being created. Enjoy sunset from Mandalay Hill, with panoramic view over the city. Stay overnight at Hotel in Mandalay.

Day 11 :: Mandalay - Kalaw by car :: B/L/-

mandalay-11After breakfast at hotel, drive by private car to Kalaw (269 km, 7 hours) via Thazi. Have lunch in Thazi at local restaurant. After a short break continue by car to Kalaw, a former british hill station. Still you can see nice colonial style houses in and around Kalaw.. Rest of the day at leisure. Stay overnight at Hotel in Kalaw.


Day 12 :: Kalaw trekking :: B/L/-

kalaw-01In the morning our Trekking Guide will meet you at your hotel and drive by horse-cart to Palaung Village TAR YAW. Visit one typical Palaung "long house", home for 7 families. You will observe the local traditional way of roasting the tobacco leafs. Visit also the monastery in this village. Afterwards enjoy your simple lunch at local restaurant with panoramic view over the area. The horse-cart will return back to Kalaw and you will discover the area by trekking. A short distance walking will bring you to YWA THIT Palaung village. Most of the villagers are farmers. After a short visit continue trekking up and down the hills back to Kalaw ( 2 ½ hours).

*The road is quite tough and narrow, but you will have the chance for perfect views over this beautiful mountainous area.

Day 13 :: Kalaw - Inle Lake :: B/-/-

kalaw-02After breakfast, drive to NYAUNG SHWE (61 km - 2 hours). An excursion by boat on Inle Lake will include sights of the famous leg rowers, typical floating gardens, local methods of fishing and village life. Further visits are made to PHAUNGDAW OO PAGODA, the weaving village of INPAWKHON and other sights. Stay overnight at Hotel on the Lake.


Day 14 :: Inle Lake -Indein :: B/-/-

inle-12Early morning after breakfast, visit INDEIN VILLAGE, located at the western side of the lake. Passing NYAUNG OHAK MONASTERY and follow a stair path lined up with many hundreds o wooden columns, you finally will reach the impressive SHWE INDEIN PA-O COMPLEX. From the hillside you have great view over the lake area. On the way back to the boat, walk through a romantic bamboo forest at the riverside, where you may observe local people having a bath.

Day 15 :: Inle Lake - Heho - Ngapali Beach :: B/-/-

After breakfast, visit local market at Ywama. Late morning transfer to the Airport in Heho for domestic flight to Thandwe (Ngapali Beach). Enjoy the beautiful beach at Ngapali. Overnight at Hotel at the Beach.

ngapali-01In the morning, transfer to Thandwe Airport for domestic flight to Yangon. Upon arrival, transfer to the Hotel for leisure. In the late afternoon transfer to the International Airport for your international departure flight.
